Freddie Performs At Signature

Written by on November 29, 2017

THERE was no empty chair in sight as patrons flocked to Oceans 11 in Ocho Rios, St Ann, last Thursday to be treated to a delightful performance from singer Freddie McGregor. And they were not disappointed.

Backed by the Big Ship Band, McGregor opened his set with See It In You. He was greeted with cheers as he welcomed patrons to Appleton Estate Signature Nights in Ocho Rios, St Ann.

Delivering from his more than 50-year repertoire, his hour-long set was punctuated with several climaxes. Tracks Africa, Prophecy, Push Come to Shove, Stop Loving You, Just Don’t Wanna Be Lonely, and Big Ship were all well received. Loving Pauper resonated and was a crowd favourite as patrons sang along.

McGregor also did a tribute to the “Crown Prince of Reggae” Dennis Brown by performing renditions of Love and Hate and Revolution.

Five female patrons, who were celebrating birthdays, were brought to the stage and serenaded. McGregor closed with a cover of Bob Marley’s One Love.

“Freddie McGregor certainly lived to his status as reggae legend of Jamaica, and was the perfect headliner for this edition of Appleton Estate Signature Nights,” said Leleika-Dee Barnes, customer marketing manager at J Wray & Nephew Limited.

“Our patrons were kept fully engaged throughout the night, singing along to Freddie’s timeless songs. We had a fantastic night led by a great set and, of course, our signature cocktail for the series — the X-Ale, a mix of Appleton estate Signature V/X blend and ginger ale,” she continued.

The 2017 Appleton Estate Signature Nights series will conclude in Kingston on Thursday, December 7, with Romain Virgo at the Serengeti Bar at Hope Zoo in St Andrew.
